Stepping over the side of a bath is one of the most common causes of falls in the home. The KCare Economy Bath Transfer Bench removes that step entirely. The bench sits across the rim of the bath, with two legs outside and two inside, so you can sit down safely on the outer section, then slide across and swing your legs over the edge while seated.

The seat is moulded plastic with drainage, so water runs away rather than pooling, and it wipes clean easily. A removable backrest gives support while bathing and can be fitted on either side of the seat, so the bench suits a bath in any orientation and can be set up for whichever side you transfer from.

All four legs adjust independently in small increments, which matters on a bathroom floor that slopes towards a drain or where the inside and outside of the bath sit at different heights. Suction cup feet grip the base of the tub and anti-slip tips steady the legs on the floor. The whole bench assembles without tools and, at 4.8 kg, is light enough to lift out and store between uses.

Before you buy

Measure the outside width of your bath across the rim before ordering, and check there is clear floor space beside the bath for the two outer legs to stand level. The bench is designed for baths with a flat, even rim.

Care and safety

• Rinse and wipe the seat after use, and clean with warm water and a mild detergent. Do not use abrasive or solvent based cleaners.
• Check before every use that all four legs are locked at the correct height and that the adjustment pins are fully engaged.
• Press the suction cups firmly onto a clean, dry bath surface so they seal properly, and check they remain secure.
• Inspect the anti-slip tips regularly and replace them if they are worn.
• Do not stand on the seat or use the bench as a step.
