Description
The KCare KH403 Steady Shift Patient Mover is a manually operated sit-to-stand transfer aid designed to assist users who retain some lower-limb weight-bearing capacity but require additional support during transfers. It is intended to be used as part of a supervised transfer process, following individual clinical assessment, to assist with movement between seated surfaces such as beds, chairs, wheelchairs, and toilets.
Assisted Sit-to-Stand Transfers
The Steady Shift is designed to support an assisted sit-to-stand movement while encouraging active user participation where clinically appropriate. The device aims to reduce the physical demands associated with manual handling for caregivers and support safer transfer practices when used in accordance with manufacturer instructions and clinical guidance.
A swing-away seat board with a rotation range of up to 150 degrees allows the seat to be positioned out of the way during standing and to provide support during the transition phase. This design supports smoother transfers within the limitations of the user’s functional abilities.
Positioning and Lower-Limb Support
An adjustable knee pad, with both height and angle adjustment, is provided to support lower-limb positioning during the standing phase. The PU rubber-coated footprint offers a non-slip standing surface to assist foot placement, and a supplied support belt may be used to provide additional security during transfers, as identified through assessment.
Use in Confined Environments
The Steady Shift features a compact base and is designed for use in residential and care environments where space may be limited. A foot-operated leg spread mechanism allows the base to open for access around chairs and wheelchairs and to narrow for manoeuvring through doorways and corridors.
Caregiver Control and Safety Features
The patient mover is fitted with smooth-rolling castors, with rear castors equipped with brakes to assist in maintaining stability during transfer initiation and completion. A horizontal handrail enables the user to maintain a two-handed grip during assisted standing, supporting balance and upper-limb engagement as clinically appropriate.
Construction, Capacity, and Hygiene
The Steady Shift is constructed with a powder-coated aluminium frame and moulded PU components designed to support durability and routine cleaning. The device has a published Safe Working Load (SWL) of up to 200 kg and is suitable for use in home care, aged care, and clinical environments when used in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Intended Use Considerations
This device is not intended for long-distance transport and should not be used in place of hoist-based transfer equipment where full weight support is required. Suitability for use should be determined through individual assessment by a qualified health professional.
